Software updates – Over The Air (OTA)

Availability{ft_software_updates_disc1} depends on vehicle-specific and country.specific factors. Check in your myAudi app{ft_software_updates_disc2} in the vehicle tab under “All functions” whether the “Software update” function is displayed. If it is available, then your vehicle supports online updates. Alternatively, you can check on the MMI under “Settings > Software update” whether an update is possible.

New functions and product optimisations can be installed directly in your vehicle{ft_software_updates_disc1} without visiting your Audi Dealer. This means that your vehicle software stays up to date – like with your smartphone.

Available updates are displayed to you on the MMI and in the myAudi app{ft_software_updates_disc2} as soon as they are available. The download takes place automatically in the background. To install, follow the displays on the MMI. The vehicle{ft_software_updates_disc1} cannot be used during installation. Once started, an update cannot be interrupted.

The latest software version is downloaded automatically while driving. There are no costs involved. A notification on the MMI and in the myAudi app{ft_software_updates_disc2} appears as soon as installation is possible. You can then start the update on the MMI.

The installation duration depends on the scope of the respective update and is displayed on the MMI. During this time, the vehicle{ft_software_updates_disc1} cannot be used. Therefore, choose a time that suits you.

If your vehicle{ft_software_updates_disc1} supports online software updates, this is activated before it leaves the factory. Retrofitting is unfortunately not possible.

No. The vehicle{ft_software_updates_disc1} cannot be driven during an ongoing update. Individual functions are also only available to a limited extent, e.g. no music can be played during an MMI update.

The release notes can be found in the myAudi app{ft_software_updates_disc2} under “Vehicle tab > All functions > Software update”. They are also shown on the MMI and on the Audi website.

Not every update results in visible changes. Larger updates may include new functions and noticeable improvements, while smaller updates make important optimisations in the background – to improve system stability, for example.

No. As soon as an update is started, it can no longer be cancelled.

No. Software updates use the Audi connect e‑SIM integrated in the vehicle. Your private data allowance is not used and no additional costs are incurred.

In principle, the installation can be done anywhere however the vehicle cannot be used during the installation. Therefore, avoid locations that need to be cleared quickly (e.g. car parks, loading zones, entrance/exit areas). Installation abroad is not recommended.

The provision of new updates varies depending on vehicle model{ft_software_updates_disc1}. As soon as new software is available, you will informed via your MMI and – depending on availability – in the myAudi app{ft_software_updates_disc2}.

Only selected software updates will be released Over The Air (OTA). Other software updates will still require a workshop visit when necessary.

You may choose to delay an online software update. However, we strongly recommend completing the update as soon as possible to ensure your vehicle remains up to date and continues to benefit from the latest improvements and functions. Delaying an available update may mean that you do not receive important improvements or enhancements in a timely manner.
