Electrification and digitalisation are not only the focus of a global movement, they are also the key to a more sustainable future. At Audi, electrified vehicles carry the name e-tron.
What is e-tron?
Motors of the future should provide propulsion without fossil fuels. We therefore look to a particular type of energy that is theoretically available in infinite amounts: electricity. It is stored in batteries embedded in the vehicle floor. If this combination of batteries and an electric motor is used in an Audi, the vehicle carries the name e-tron.
“Battery electric vehicles” (BEV) offer some interesting advantages over combustion engines. They emit no CO₂ locally, and therefore cause less pollution in cities. The urban environment also benefits from the lower noise level of the almost silent electric motor. Usually, only wind and rolling noises are perceptible in the vehicles. The immediate availability of torque means that none of the fun of driving is lost. An e-tron has a clear advantage over most combustion engines when in sprint.
