From Basel to Vienna and back – on one tank of fuel.
For this race, the tank caps were sealed. So anyone wanting to win had to drive economically. 22 volunteers set out in the AutoBILD Efficiency Marathon – powered by Audi. Eleven Audi A4 2.0 TDI models with a 120 hp (88 kW) engine set out to drive from Basel to Vienna and back. That is a total distance of about 1,650 km. The Audi A4 was the perfect car in which to undertake this efficiency run, with an average consumption of just 5.3 l/100 km when driven normally. Could this figure be bettered? Yes indeed, the winners used only 3.4 l/100 km.
